Blonde, grey and white hair can turn yellow if the flat iron is too hot. When you finish a QiQi Hair Controller treatment, a quick test pass helps you find the right heat for your client.
Which Hair Needs Extra Care?
- Grey or white hair
- Naturally light hair
- Pre-lightened hair
- Colored hair at level 7 or higher
Before you iron the whole head, test one small, hidden section and watch the color.
- No change? Continue.
- Turning yellow? Stop and lower the heat.
Your starting temperature is only a guide. The hair tells you what it can take.
If the hair starts to turn yellow at any point, stop immediately and lower the temperature. Never push through a color change just to finish your passes. Heat yellowing can be hard or impossible to reverse, and you may need to tone the hair to get the blonde back.

Blow-dry, then flat iron at 210°C (410°F) or lower.
Make as many passes as you need.
Watch the color the whole time.
- Start between 177°C and 210°C (350°F to 410°F).
- Raise the heat in small steps if needed.
- If yellowing appears, stop and lower the heat.
- Test again at the lower heat. If the color holds, add 4 to 6 extra passes at that lower setting.
- If the color still changes, stop and reassess.
One head can have natural hair, highlights and lightened ends, and each can react differently. Keep watching as you move around the head.
Yellowing while ironing = The iron is too hot. What to do? Lower the heat right away.
Color looks lighter after treatment = QiQi Hair Controller works inside the hair and can release some artificial color. What to do? Recolor the same day using QiQi’s post-treatment color protocol.
If you see yellow while ironing, always fix the heat first.
Test first. Lower the heat if you see yellow. Watch every pass.
